Here We Go Again, V-Day

Just about two weeks to go until the highly anticipated holiday of the year, Valentine’s Day. Do you celebrate? Most people are either very much for or against. Some people are excited to have a special day devoted just to love. Others think you should be showing love all year round. And then there are single people like me who just gorge on the chocolate sales the 3 days following.

One thing is for sure, what does one do on Valentine’s Day? Here is a list of some local events that will be happening, a nice dinner to take your sweetie to or some speed dating to find “the one.”

Feb 11-14 – Valentine’s Pupcake Pop Up

Pups need love too! Support the SPCA and go grab some mini pupcakes at the Scotia Square Mall from 9-5 each day of the event. Each pack is $12 comes with 6 mini pupcakes in three flavours; Cinnamon Heart, Red Velvet and Toasted Peanut. {Ingredients: organic chickpeas, organic peanuts, organic coconut oil, organic carob, organic shredded coconut, organic beet powder, honey, gelatin, organic ceylon cinnamon.} There will also be kitty wine for the cat parents too! You can pick up at the Dartmouth SPCA, Kings SPCA, Colchester SPCA or at the PUP-UP event at SCOTIA SQUARE MALL! Reserve your pupcakes online on their facebook even using the link above! The sweetest part of all is that 100% of all proceeds will stay in Nova Scotia and support your favourite SPCA location!

Feb 12 – Speed Friending (Ages 23-40)

Feeling not just romantically lonely, but friend lonely too? Maybe in need of some new connections around town? Or all of your friends have plans on the 14th and you need to find someone to burn old pictures of your exes together while watching the craft. Have a 5-minute chat with some local strangers and find your new BFF. Tickets are $30 which include either a drink or a menu item. This event will be hosted at Hopyard from 7:30-10:30.

Feb 13-15 – Be My Valentine Or Not

This is a Valentine-themed flash tattoo event being held at Sevenfold Ink in Dartmouth from Feb 13 at 11 am to Feb 15 at 7 pm. Walk-ins are welcome but it is best to call in and book a spot as they are filling up. $20 deposit to book, pieces ranging from $60-200.

Feb 13 – Learn How to Make Raw Chocolate at Home

I don’t know about you, but this sounds like the one DIY skill I actually need in my life. Health educator Silvia Revenco will be showing you how you can make your very own decadent and healthy raw chocolate and cacao fudge at home. The fee of $25 includes handouts, recipes, and samples. This event will be hosted at The Tare Shop from 5pm -6:30 pm.

Feb 14 – Art & Wine

Studio 21 presents its sixth annual Valentine’s Day Art + Wine event, an evening of romantic pairings of gallery artists work, with wines chosen by guest sommelier Shelley Joyce. Go with your sweetheart or go solo! Tickets are $25 and the event goes from 6 – 8pm.

Lit by aFrite

A candlelight only dinner service by aFrite. 5-Course fine dining menu, wine pairing, romantic music, and intimate candle lighting sure to set the mood for love. Tickets are $120 and there are two seating at 5 and 7:30.

Lyle Street Lonely Hearts Club 3: Third Wheel

Lyle Street Tatto is doing a flash tattoo day! Doors open at 12 and flash pieces will start at $80.

Valentine’s Day Singles Mixer

Durty Nelly’s is having their annual singles mixer! Finally an event you can show up to alone on this day 🙂 This event will go from 8:30 pm – 2 am. No cover or ticket price!

Valentine’s Jazz at Compass

Enjoy some amazing cocktails and wicked jazz with bae at Compass distillery. No cover or ticket price! This will run from 7:30-10:30 pm.

Valentine Flamenco Show & Dance

The Seahorse Tavern is hosting a Flamenco Show & Dance. 7:30 doors open, enjoy some drinks and tapas. 8 pm, enjoy the wonderful performance. 9:30, learn to dance the salsa and bachata! There are many different ticket options available. General admission to the show and dance, not including wine and tapas in $20. The couple special, including a reserved table, tapas platter and two glasses of wine is $68. The 4 person package which is double the couple package is $128.

Valentine’s Day with Chianti

A beautiful 4-course meal for you and your hunny to share with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Reservations are being taken from 4:30-10. First course: Avocado and Smoked Tomato Terrine
Served with Green Salad and Blood Orange Vinaigrette. Second Course: Vidal Ice Wine and Strawberry Sherbert, a seasonal, delicious palate-cleanser
​Third Course: Center Cut Striploin & Grilled Lobster Tail, Served with Sour Cream and Chive Croquette Potato Dual Sauce, Peppercorn Jus and Lemon Beurre Blanc with Wild Mushrooms. Fourth Course: Triple Chocolate Marquise, Served with Raspberry Coulis and Vanilla Bean Tulip Cookie. $150 a couple.

Wines and Foods of Italy

Go out for a night of wines and foods from Italy presented by Cheryl Doherty at the Old Triangle. Proceeds from this event go to the 2019 Halifax St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Tickets can be purchased online through Eventbrite on this page, at the Old Triangle Pub bar or by emailing Tickets are $50 and the event is from 6:30 – 9:30pm.

Valentine’s Stoplight Party

Hosted at the Pint, there’s a little something for everyone. Show up and wear green if you’re single, yellow if it’s complicated and red if you’re taken! No cover and starts at 7 pm!

Valentine’s Day at Obladee!

Latin sounds from 6-10pm. 3 course menu, $45. Wine pairings, $35. 2 seatings: 6 & 8:30. Walk-ins are welcome but limited seating.

Speed Dating (Ages 32-44)

Cafe Lara will be hosting this event by Halifax Speed Dating with chocolates, flowers and other surprises throughout the night. In one night, you will sit down, one on one, for 16 five minute dates. You will decide who you like, and who you would like to see again. It could be 5 people, it could be all 16! The event is 7:30-10:30 and tickets are $40.

Board Room Rom-Com Trivia

Looking for something different this Valentine’s? Maybe a challenge? To participate in this event, players should assemble a team of 2 to 6 players, decide on a clever team name, sign up via Eventrbite, and you’ll be all set for a night of challenging trivia, with questions covering all the best Romantic Comedies! All players will must pay The Board Room’s standard admission of $5. This event is from 6 – 11pm.

Thirstday Valentines Make Out Party

Menz & Mollyz is inviting you to mack out (consensually) in their rainbow room with dimmed lights, sexy music and drink specials all night from 10pm – 2am!

Valentine’s Day at Westin Nova Scotian

The Westin will be hosting a number of events, something for everyone.

Thursday, February 14th at Elements on Hollis – Have a romantic evening of decadence at Elements on Hollis Restaurant with a luxury 5-course tapas tasting menu, each tasting course is paired with wine for $150 per couple, includes gratuity and HST.

February 14, 15, 16 at Yuk Yuk’s Halifax. $20 per person, includes HST. Enjoy love with a smile. Yuk Yuk’s show at 8:00PM. Includes a welcome glass of sparkling wine.

February 14, 15, 16 at Yuk Yuk’s Halifax. $75.00 per person, includes gratuity and HST. Enjoy an enchanting dinner and dessert for 6PM. Followed by a Yuk Yuk’s comedy show at 8PM, including a welcome glass of sparkling wine.

Sunday, February 17th from 12pm-2pm at Elements on Hollis. $46 per person, includes gratuity and HST. A chocolate themed Valentine’s Day brunch, which I have to say is personally my kind of brunch.

Valentine’s Day Partner Paint Nite

Partner up with your significant other, best friend, or roommate and paint two halves of a single painting! You’ll each work on your very own canvas to create your own masterpiece that will compliment your partner’s painting. Hang them together, or hang them separately – they’ll look great either way!

Two canvases + two people = one great painting! Paint Nite Halifax will be hosting this event at Montes Showbar & Grill in Dartmouth from 7-9pm. Tickets are $45. One ticket includes one canvas for one person. If you are coming solo and would like paint two canvases, you can purchase two tickets.

Valentine’s Flash Day

Who knew Valentine’s Day was all about tattoos? Well no matter how you like to spend your February 14th – with partners, lovers, family, friends, or on your own – celebrating Valentine’s Day, Palentine’s Day, Pink Triangle Day, or none of the above – Outlaw Country Tattoo will have some rad flash for you!

This event will be featuring all four amazing artists: Gabe (squigglysqualor), Britnee (honeybloodtattoo), Emerson (emersonroachtattoos) and Megan (abracazebra)! Pieces cannot be reserved in advance, and will be first come first serve!

Feb 15 – Valentine’s Day is Dead

Woohoo! Sorry but I don’t celebrate the 14th, I celebrate the 15th. When everyone regrets how much they spent on their expensive dinner and all heart-shaped chocolate goes on sale. This will be hosted at the Seahorse Tavern and is described as a celebration of the Eternal Lament, an Exposition of Sight, Sound and Space. Performances by The State of Alaska, No, it’s Fine, and Dave Fultz Music. Unsure about cover price but this event will run from 10pm – 2am.

Feb 15 – Anarchy is for Lovers

Anarchy is for Lovers! Calling all liberation lovers, anarcho audiophiles, socialist socialites, hallmark holiday skeptics, and everyone who doesn’t wanna be part of a revolution without dancing. There will be DJs, performances, and special surprises. This is a Dance Party Fundraiser for Halifax’s Anarchist Bookfair and will be hosted at 1313 Hollis St from 8pm-12am. Pay what you can, no one will be turned away. Suggested donation: $10.
